About the Author

According to his clients, Dr. Claus Michael Sattler is one of Germany’s most prominent interim CIOs and consultants in the areas of digital transformation, cyber resilience, and data-driven corporate management. He is regarded as a bridge-builder between technology, top management, and the supervisory board or advisory board when it comes to making organizations future-ready in highly complex, security-critical environments.

As a certified master technician in bicycle mechanics with a Ph.D. in business administration, he combines analytical precision with strategic foresight. Over more than four decades and across more than 200 successfully completed projects, he has been responsible worldwide for the development, security, and transformation of IT and OT infrastructures; he has led large-scale industrialIndustry 4.0 initiatives, and implemented data-driven decision-making processes for executive boards and supervisory boards in Europe, Asia, and North America.

These four core competencies form the foundation of his work:

  1. IT Infrastructure: Building robust, scalable, and highly secure IT system environments. By “IT system environments,” I mean the combination of hardware, software, databases, and networks, both on-premises (at the company’s own location) and in the cloud.
  2. OT Integration / Industry 4.0: Highly secure connection of machines, sensors, data loggers, and production networks to the enterprise IT infrastructure in accordance with RAMI 4.0 principles.
  3. Data Analytics & AI: Collection, generation, processing, and utilization of data from all areas of a company to transform it into information and to answer questions from top management and the supervisory board/advisory board in companies, government agencies, foundations, and cooperatives.
  4. Data-Driven Decisions: Automated, semi-automated, and/or manual translation of the insights gained through data analytics into decisions for the operational and strategic management of business units, extending to the entire company.

He is a member of the umbrella organization Deutsches Interim Management (DDIM) and is regarded in the industry as a thought leader on strategic resilience in the European and international context. My perspective is shaped by close collaboration with private equity firms, industrial and pharmaceutical companies, as well as healthcare companies, cooperatives, government agencies, foundations, and banks. My focus is always on the traceability, verifiability, and manageability of digital risks. This focus has led to several awards from the BVMID—the Federal Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Germany.

As an author, speaker, and analyst, he regularly addresses current topics such as NIS2, DORA, CRA, RAMI 4.0, AI governance, and geopolitical dependencies, translating them into action-oriented guidelines for top management and supervisory boards. His publications have appeared in anthologies such as “Digital Transformation of Healthcare Services VII: Impulses for the Pharmaceutical Industry” and “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Developments, Examples, and Perspectives,” and are regarded as practical references for vertical and horizontal IT integration. In addition, he has authored highly acclaimed articles on AI in healthcare, digitalization in small and medium-sized enterprises, European data strategies, and European cyber defense.

At a time when Europe faces the challenge of ensuring digital sovereignty, operational resilience, and strategic independence in equal measure, he brings precisely the combination of technical expertise, geopolitical insight, and entrepreneurial experience needed for forward-looking corporate alignment and strategic debates, as well as for books, lectures at international universities, and presentations and keynote speeches.

He embodies his guiding principle: “Digital resilience begins when management and technology speak the same language.” That’s why he’s the ideal bridge-builder between technology, top management, and the board of directors!
